ABSORPTION
The process through which amino acids, nutrients or substances are absorbed by the intestine before being passed into the blood stream.

ACIDS
These are nutrients found in food that are essential for the body example include ascorbic acid and essential fatty acids.

ADRENAL GLAND
This gland is found above the kidney; it has a triangular shape and produces variety of hormones like adrenaline and the steroids aldosterone & cortisol.

ALKALI
This is a substance with pH value of more than 7; it neutralizes acid to form a salt; a base.

ALLERGY
It is an autoimmune response to a specific foreign or strange substance

AMINO ACID
It regulates the metabolic process in the body; it is a class of organic compound known as building blocks of the protein molecule.

ANTIBODY
Also known as immunoglobulin; it is used by the immune system to react against pathogenic bacteria and viruses or foreign material in the blood stream.

ANTICOAGULANT
Often referred to as blood thinners, they primarily prevent blood clot.

ANTIOXIDANT
These are substances that prevent cell damage; it prevents oxidation reaction and prevents the body from damage caused by harmful molecules popularly known as free radicals.

ASCORBIC ACID
Also known as vitamin c; an essential nutrient found mostly in fruits and vegetables.

ASSIMILATION
The process through which nutrients is being absorbed into the system and transformed into living tissues.

ATROPHY

CELL
It is simply referred to the smallest unit of life that can replicate independently. It is often called the “building blocks of life”.

CELLULAR
This has to do with functions and activities at the individual cell level.

CELLULOSE
It is a non-digestible and non-caloric carbohydrate type of fiber found in plants. It is a good source of fiber in fruits, beans, legumes, vegetables, grains and nuts.

CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
This controls your thought process, movement and sensation throughout the body. It includes the brain and spinal cord.

CHOLESTEROL

CHYME
